The Sims 4 review

The Sims is a series loved by many. Have you always wanted to play god, architect and have just the life you could wish for, then The Sims is the answer. The latest release on the Tribe, The Sims 4, is now finally released on PS4 and Xbox One. Of a game that has already been out for a long time on PC, how has the conversion been to the consoles? We've had our fingers in the game on PlayStation 4 and the message is positive.

The Sims 4 on PS4 offers everything you already know from the PC version. Nothing is cooked down or otherwise downgraded. This is more or less identical to what you find on PC. In addition to the basic game, console owners also get the same updates, extensions and free DLC across the systems. It is great that you get the same no matter what platform you play on.

For those who are not exactly familiar with The Sims series, I can just tell you briefly. You make a person called a sim. You can choose to have just one or a whole family. This applies to both children and adults. You can style them any way you like. Skin color, hair, building, personality, name, clothing style and so much more. When choosing clothes for your sim, you have to choose clothes for different events such as what to wear for parties, everyday life when going to bed, etc. There is so much to choose from that it can seem a bit overwhelming. But this is also where it really takes care, as you can make your sim as you wish and thus create your own story. Do you think your sim should be a punkrocker with a green skin tone and a voice like a chipmunk, then you can. It is really only the imagination that sets boundaries.

Once your sim (s) are done, you can move into a house. The Sims 4 has 3 neighborhoods to choose from. You choose which and if it should be an already completed house or an empty plot. If you choose a plot of land, you can go crazy building the house you want. Here it sticks out completely, which is so nice. Then it's about finding his inner architect. There are so few restrictions that you can build a huge house on several floors, two houses, a house in a basement or something completely fourth. When you start your construction project, you just have to think about your budget. You start with a modest amount and it may seem plentiful, but you soon find out that everything costs. So the money disappears fast!

The game really starts when you live your daily life with your sim. You have to find jobs, get to know other Sims, cook, go to the toilet, get girlfriends, learn new skills and everything else you need in real life. It is so entertaining to play god and decide what happiness or destiny your sim should have.

The interaction your sim can have with the outside world is really well screwed together. The way you can talk to other Sims and do things together gives some really fun highlights. It is always good to become acquaintances and friends, but it can also go quickly in the other direction. There is so much you can do with other Sims and their feelings towards what you are doing and saying are shining through. Having played some of the other The Sims games, it is clear to see the leap that has happened over the years.

The game on the PS4 runs very well and almost flawlessly. One of the things that is limiting is the frame rate that can dive a little if you have built too much or new things just need to be loaded into the game. But this is short-lasting, thankfully! Another thing we just need to get out of the way is control. For starters, it's a bit of a jumble of button printing and confusion in how to get to the various points in the menus and utensils. But when you have it in place, it's great to go crazy building and managing your sim just as you wish. The Sims 4 is graphically similar to the PC version. There is not a that big difference, which shows how much care has been put into the console version of the game.

The basic game has a lot to offer and with many hours of gameplay. You can already find expansion packs that give you an even bigger selection of things for your sim, in the form of new places to go, become a vampire, content for your house, etc.

The Sims 4 is a solid game that just works really well on the consoles. Sure, there are some small dives in performance and the steering can have a slightly steep learning curve. But once you get over it, you can immerse yourself in living the stories or doing things you would only have dreamed of. The game performs well on the PS4 and certainly also on the Xbox One. Here is so much to do and build. There are hours of fun moments in the game. It's only going to be exciting to see what else happens with The Sims 4 on the consoles and what's in store for extensions. So cool!
